MCKINNEY TO CLINTON: "LET'S STRIKE A DEAL,
NOT MORE CIVILIAN TARGETS"
May 4, 1999
WASHINGTON D.C. -- Congresswoman
Cynthia McKinney (D-GA-4th), Member of the International
Relations and Armed Services Committees, is extremely
encouraged by President Clinton's willingness
to negotiate an end the U.S.-NATO bombing campaign
in Yugoslavia.
Congresswoman McKinney has
been calling for a cease fire since NATO's air
campaign began. There now appears to be a light
at the end of the tunnel.
"I have always said that
we should trade in the smart bombs for smart negotiators,"
says Congresswoman McKinney. "Now is the time
for affirmative action toward peace. The door
of opportunity has opened, lets seize the moment.
Approximately 700,000 Kosovars have been displaced
by this so-called humanitarian effort, lets end
the bombing campaign so they can return home and
rebuild their lives. The Kosovars and Serb people
have suffered enough."
"Bombing Belgrade and cutting
off the city's electricity has been successful
in disrupting the lives of innocent citizens,
but it has done nothing the situation on the ground
for the average Albanian Kosovar. Serb troops
continue to wreak havoc on the lives of the Kosovars
by land, while NATO wreaks havoc by air. President
Milosevic is willing to talk peace, lets listen.
Who could choose war over peace? Lets give peace
a chance," concludes Congresswoman McKinney.
