Yes, do think about it, and about the size of the military, and what this means in terms of retention problems they are having, and about what it costs to train and lose so many of these people each month, and about what any other corporation on earth would do about it all from the personnel office on down to finance. But, then, no corporation on earth is so well funded without worrying about a bottom line, nor does any other have such an impact on the youth of its population as this one does.

Was watching/listening to Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Mo), Ranking Member of the Armed Services Comm, giving a talk on C-Span at the Center for Strategic and Int'l Studies, this week, regarding military reorganization, priorities, etc., etc. Essentially, he reiterated the same stuff as elsewhere, "strong defence, need to increase military spending, troops, space, educate public, blah, blah." In the question and answer period, however, I found it intriquing, when someone asked him about repositioning troops in Europe, Skelton responded, words to the effect, that, "he would deploy more troops in the Caspian Sea area because that's most likely going to be a future hot spot, or, troubled area"! Surprise, surprise, anyone. Out of the horse's mouth. I didn't/haven't quoted him PRECISELY, since I can't remember his EXACT words. 6 Feb 2002This account was later contested as false, but it brings up the suspicion of inside planning more than a "mole" to me. Note the timing of the known threat to DC moments after 9:03, and Cheney's warning to Bush not to return. Bush chomps at the bit and is told to go to Ohama, SAC headquarters to "convene the National Security Council". Six planes are originally reported as "potential missiles". It must have been during that call right after 9:03 that Cheney and Bush agreed on the shootdown orders.
Clearly Cheney did not want Bush in DC. A later press report said that the Secret Service finally forced Bush to sign a legal waiver in order to get back to DC as he wanted to, exonerating them from any responsibility for his death. The window opens just a crack here and we see in. Flight 77 hits the Pentagon 40 minutes later, without anything put in its way.

I'm not sure which disturbed me more, the thinking/vision (if you can call it that) of "full spectrum dominance", and that the "purpose of the military...is to fight and win wars" (what happened to defense?), and the concepts of "information superiority", "asymetrical threats" and "imbalanced friction" (which identifies "humans" as one source of "friction"), or the photographs which accompany all this. In any case, permanent war is what's on their minds.

6 Feb 2002This is an interesting piece, though clearly biased towards Johnson. The devil is in the details supposedly provided by him, though. For instance, she claims that in both instances the country was put on immediate alert and that Johnson told the Joint Chiefs to put all commands on notice. In fact, there was no full alert in either case, which is how the plane that hit the Pentagon got through the most restricted air space in the country to fly over the White House and Capitol and then loop out of its way to crash into the mostly empty side of the Pentagon. The only planes scrambled were from far away and came too late, but they had 40 minutes to move the local fighters into the air and did nothing.
One of the first released files I looked for was a pre-ARRB release by the National Security Agency titled DEFCON 11/22/63. That means Defense Condition or alert status. There were sheets for CONUS (Contintental United States), USAREUR (Europe), SOUTHCOM (Latin and Central America), and ASEAN (Asian sector) and the DEFCON status in every sector remained at 5, the lowest status, or normal condition.
The ASEAN report noted a change from 5 to 4 in Vietnam, a "listen up" alert that there would be a change. Indeed there would, since JFK's full withdrawal plans would be reversed over the weekend and a ten year war implemented on the Monday following the assassination.
The writer's logic makes complete sense, the President has been killed by forces unknown, so you go to full alert. Perhaps Johnson actually ordered the JCS to do so, but they didn't according to their own records. Some bases were put on alert that day, and troops were readied for an invasion of Cuba. When Oswald survived the Texas Theater arrest, they had a talking head instead of a dead "Red", and I think they called it off at that point. SAC bombers that day in 1963 were missing their code books, and SAC/NORAD alert planes on 9-11 sat on nearby bases (Anacostia NAS and Andrews AFB), doing nothing. Stand downs.
Perhaps the JCS knew it was coming? The writer even mentions that an "internal military coup" could not be ruled out in 1963.
Another parallel I clearly see is the planting of false evidence for false sponsorship in both instances, done by both the Oswald "doubles" and the planted evidence (rifle in 1963, flight manual in 2002), and actions geared to lead authorities by the nose to one conclusion.
The fact that the hijackers were using fake ID's in many cases does not rule out the ultimate responsibility of al-Quaida and bin Laden, but it doesn't prove it either. "Dr. NOsama" in his secret cave has worked for a variety of national intelligence interests, and I don't think we know the final sponsor of 9-11 yet.

28 Feb 2002I find this extensive compilation of questions a good framework for raising certain issues, especially the lack of air defense on 9-11. I only disagree on two items: There was a shoot down order given by Bush and Cheney, and the plane was seen flying over the White House and the Capitol prior to hitting Pentagon. If there were two planes up, that raises a different question.
